04 Dec Featured Employee: Ronnie Knight
Hard work doesn’t scare Ronnie Knight. Before he came to HUB to work in our shipping department, Ron spent many years in a factory that manufactured wheels for pickup trucks in Johnson City, Tennessee. He worked a 12-hour shift, 7 days a week most weeks. “I’d clock in at 3 a.m. and work till 3 in the afternoon,” Ronnie recalls. He routinely worked 13 days or more without taking a day off.
Ronnie figured he would work there until he retired, but the company shifted its operations to Mexico and it was time to find another job.
That’s when he moved to Lake City. About a year ago, he came to HUB from a temp agency during our warehouse upgrade. His work ethic and positive attitude earned him a permanent spot on our team.
We also enjoy the home-made salsa that he brings in on a regular basis to share with the staff. “It’s something I’ve been doing for a long time,” Ronnie says. “I don’t use no recipe; I just know how everything should go together.” He uses mostly garden-grown ingredients and mixes it up in large, chunky batches in varying degrees of hotness. A big pickle jar placed on the breakroom table with a few bags of tortilla chips will disappear over the course of a normal work day.
The other thing Ronnie is known for is the beautiful ’86 Corvette that he drives. He doesn’t consider himself to be much of a car fanatic; but what boy growing up in the 1970s didn’t dream of owning a Corvette? This one had just 32,000 miles on it when the chance to buy it fell into his lap in 2012. He says he has no regrets.
Ronnie says he feels at home in HUB’s work culture. “Just like me, they love to help people in any way they can.” Ronnie lives with his fiancée Jane and has two grown children and one grandson.
